Storytime With Meadow: My Yes, My No

If you have been following my FF recommendations for awhile now you've probably noticed that New Moon-era fics are my favorite genre to read. I was always so impressed by how real Bella's heartbreak was in Stephenie Meyer's version but not so impressed with it's resolution. (See how I talk now? As if it wasn't the “real” version of events?) Edward comes back and suddenly there's no need for him to atone. And other than the trumped up “but maybe I love Jacob too??” issues, Bella slips right back into pre-abandonment frame of mind. Happy ending for all. Except, that's not reality. When trust is destroyed in a relationship it needs to be built back up. How does that work for them? What are they going through? THESE are the things I really want to know.

These concerns are shared by the amazing LolaShoes, who is the author of several of my favorite FF stories and is the writer of “My Yes, My No.” This is her summary:

On the plane back from Italy, Edward asks if they can try again. One Bella says yes; one Bella says no. Parallel stories in alternating chapters explore how these two reactions can influence the reunion and rebuilding of trust after Edward left. Canon/AU

There are so many things to love about this story. It's easy to imagine either of Bella's responses, and saying "yes" versus saying "no" doesn't change the basic facts. Edward is truly SORRY. Bella is truly still BROKEN. They both want to fix things, but don't quite know how. It's heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time to see their relationship rebuilt because it feels right. It feels truthful. This Bella and Edward do something canon Bella and Edward don't. They grow. Stephenie told us that Edward's return stitched up all of Bella's wounds. Lola is showing us how.

Can't wait to read it. Premise reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Sliding Doors, with Gwyneth Paltrow where she leads 2 lives based on making/not making a train.
