We have Team Edward. Team Jacob. Even Team Charlie. What about Team Jasper?? I was very disappointed that Jasper played such a small role in movie adaptation of Twilight. I fully understand that when you take a story from the page to the screen sacrifices need to be made; but why oh why did it have to be Jasper? He’s too wonderfully and rich a character to just brush aside. Couldn’t we have lost some of Sour Puss’s (Bella) brooding and stuttering in favor of some, or at least one, calm inducing interaction with Jasper?

I get the hoopla around Edward (TRUST ME, I GET IT!) and even the Jacob hoopla (but c’mon, he’s not even legal) but can we please start showing some love for our Zen inspiring little bro from Texas? I’m holding out hope that Jasper (and the yummy Jackson Rathbone) get some more screen time in the upcoming films.

And if you needed another reason to come to the Calm Side… Jasper knows his way down south ifyouknowwhatimean.

Am I alone on this?

You are not alone. I have a longstanding love of Xanax Jasper and was sorely disappointed that he was not represented in the movie AT ALL. All we got was the sense that he REALLY had to go to the bathroom before he was "turned" and was to spend eternity looking like he was backed up. The closest I think they got to showing his special talent was the close-up of his eyes squinting on the baseball field. Then again that could have been the look he made when he tried to relieve himself. I know I sound like I think Jasper is full of shit and really that's not it at all. I just think Melissa Rosenberg is...

I love Jasper's character in the books and would have liked to have more Jasper in the movie. That being said, I don't care if he knows his way down south and back again, I will never be going to the Calm Side. Not even that can sway me!

Oh I'd LOVE for Jasper to go way down south... wait, what are we talking about?

Oh right, Ginger, like you don't know. *rolling eyes*

Sorry. Oh wait. No I'm not. *snicker*

It's always the redheads.

You know it Spank!

Are we talking about the same Jasper? Or as I think he should be called, Jasper the Freak.

*hiss*

So, Spider, does that mean you won't be going down south with Jasper? I mean, tell us how you really feel.

If I had to get funky with The Freak the only place I'd go down south with Jasper is to the liquor store for vodka so I could drink myself to death.

That's okay, Spider. I'll take your turn for you. *wink*

Y'all have to get in line because if Jasper ever comes down south he'll be so busy ringing this Southern Belle I'll be vibrating for days....

I totally agree. Although i do blame him for the whole Edward having to leave thing. And the Bella,Edward,Jacob love triangle that resulted from it.

I just had a discussion with a good friend of mine about this same thing! She is a Twilight newbie and just finished reading the first book. After she saw the movie, her main question was- "Where was Jasper?"

He was such a great part of the book, and there was no excuse for leaving him out. Granted, the movie was already long, but here are a few things that could have been replaced with some Jasper screen time:

1) awkward pauses - there's at least 20 extra minutes there!
2) Bella's 2 minute stutter session in the hospital.
3) Buttcrack Santa's death scene could have been shorter. The nomads weren't that important.
4) "Look Bella, it's a worm!"

I'm sure I could find more, but it's 3am, and my brain isn't working at full capacity.

Everybody on here should know by now that I've been Team Jazz for awhile

I've been Team Jasper from the beginning. I agree that psychoberg presented him wrong in the movie Twilight. *hiss* I hope Chris gives the guy his much deserved screen time in this one but some how I think we'll have to wait till Eclipse.

I love me some Jasper, mainly because he's from Texas and because Jackson Rathbone (who lived in Texas for a while) plays him. I saw 100 Monkeys play 2 nights in a row a couple of weeks ago and they were phenomenal. Don't even get me started on Jackson playing the bass... *shiver*

enjoy! :)

nope, jasper did nothing for me. and i really hate the nickname Jazz.. i mean isn't that the name of one of the barbies back when they formed a band in the 80s. mm, maybe not but it should have been.
i'm team Jace. oh wait wrong series...team hot cullen guys (except jasper)!

@Akilah - Awesome points! I agree, the stuttering alone, think about all that air time! Thanks for commenting everyone and good luck w/the drawing!!!

I am not Team Jasper, BUT i did love the Jasper of the books. Not in love with the Jasper of the movie...at.... alll. He is kinda gay looking and NOT hot and yes, severly constipated looking. Poor guy. Anywho, they totally could have benefited from more Jasper from the Book and more Alice too. The true Alice/Bella was totally missing IMO.

Well, well, well...my little sis is a Jr. League member. And she didn't even tell me...tsk. Kind of like having Batman for a brother?

Jasper in the books was cool. Jasper in the movies...well...too bad (outside of that hot bat flipping action)! Hardwicke's fault or Rathbone's acting choice? Thoughts?

I've always liked Jasper and wondered the same thing about him in the movie. Was the library scene not in Twilight too? Or was that New Moon? I guess I need to reread the series because they all kind of run together now. I totally agree about the Jasper time!

Picksee77 said...

I love Jasper in the books! I always just wanted to give him a hug and tell him, dude it's cool! In the movie he looked a little serial killerish--except when playing baseball, that was pretty hot (Good Point Fraulein!)!
I'm looking forward to more of him in New Moon and especially in Eclipse when he gets to the be the focal point of the fight training. re-ow!

Omg! the picture! I laughed so hard!

I'm more of a Team Carlisle myself, but Jasper definetely comes second on my list. He the sort of Southern gentlemen I'd fall for. I can forgive him for the Bella attack, because it was really her fault. Who slices their finger on wrapping paper? Though I wouldn't have minded if he had taken her out. Then again, Tyler should've taken her out in the first place. And I'm surprised the Volturi didn't later on. So many failed attempts...

Vianca said...

I just had to jump in on this one! Long time lurker first time poster. I am alllll for Team Jasper.Who doesn't like a good ol' southern boy? Hopefully they will stick to talking more about Jaspers past and experiance than two hours of Bellas rambeling and blinking. I salute his ... er... um... i mean the good general! Hmm Jasper and going down south...that sounds good, seeing as he will know exactly how that makes you feel. ;-D

Team Jasper FTW!

Enter me in the give-away :)

Well my dear sister, even us Jr. Leaguers need to keep our secret identities. :)

I was always fascinated by Jasper and Alice's relationship and even wish SM would come up with a prequel to Twilight based on those two characters. It infuriated me that Jasper's role was so small that they didn't even mention his powers! More Jacksper in New Moon!

There is no other team for me but Team Edward but if I lived in Twilightworld Jasper and Alice would be my best friends.

SpiderLily said...

Jasper...oh Jasper. I like the name. I like the character...it's not his fault he is a bit overlooked next to Edward. :)

Following-up to Akilah...

The budget-sucking helicopter cam to film the tree scene and just trees. *snooze*

The macbook scene where she scrawls the address to the Port Angeles bookstore in her third grader penmanship. Because you would wait a whole week to go to the bookstore when you could click and order on Amazon, Borders, or Barnes and Noble? No. Fail.

Dog search. The K9s got more camera time than Jazz.

Pretty much any scene with Mike Newton, especially when he confronts her at the diner and the boys are throwing a football around in the 6' strip of crowded parking lot - why wouldn't they be at the school? They've never been at the diner before. And Newton's butt at the window. Um. Stupid.

I'm also on Team Jasper and hope to see more of him (and Jackson) in the next movie. (and can I just add... Jackson looks mighty fine in his baseball tee... ahem.)

One part I wish had made it into the movie was after the baseball scene... and the Cullens and Bella are preparing to flee. Bella, Jasper and Alice are the last to leave and Jasper says to Bella, "You're wrong, you know. You are worth it." One of my fave scenes in the book that I was disappointed to find not in the movie.

VampireWireTour said...

Although a fiercely loyal member of Team Edward, I am completely captivated by Jasper. I think his relationship with Alice is the best love story in the series, and his background certainly the most interesting (with the exception of maybe Carlisle).
Even the hardest of hearts had to have melted when he told Bella that she was worth it in Twilight.
I was so disappointed in the movie when Jasper (and the rest of the Cullen family) were given so few lines or even screen time. I mean the biology teacher had more lines than the entire family, damnit!!
Anyway...love me some Jasper and cannot wait to see his story told in Eclipse. Not to mention that seeing Jackson Rathbone in uniform, on horseback is pretty much going to rock my world. Thanks for letting me opine!

I want to be entered in the contest pleeease. :)

I love Jasper by the way, and was very disappointed he didn't have as much screen time as he really should've.

I would love it if Jasper and Alice had their own special book. I think it would make such an awesome love story!

leslie said...

@Dani- I totally agree with you. I'm intrigued by Alice and Jasper and I'd love to read about their love story.

I enjoyed Jasper's character in the books, but was very disappointed that he was so overlooked in the movie. How are they going to explain his special talents in the rest of the movies? Damn you, Catherine!

@Spank - You're so dirty! ;) "Y'all have to get in line because if Jasper ever comes down south he'll be so busy ringing this Southern Belle I'll be vibrating for days...."

I was wondering how it was going to look when we see Jasper's scars...who knows, maybe that's why he looks constipated; to hide his self consciousness.

Cheryl said...

That was my biggest peeve with the Twilight movie (well, besides KStewpid). Jasper was one of my absolute favorite characters in the books. We need more of him onscreen!

Anonymous said...

I agree as well. Wish they would show more of him, maybe in new moon?

Unknown said...

hehehe....Jasper always looks like he smells something bad....

I'll be quiet now....

I love Jasper and would love to see more of him in the movie.. but I want more emmett also...with no shirt

Dandi_Candi said...

i have often thought about this, and i agree that he should have had a bigger part, in the book is was well explained, i know you can't do the book to movie (why i don't know but i know you can't) but they should have had more of him to explain better why he'd attact her in the next movie, other then the short piddly ass "he newest to our way" BS at the Cullens house. the end

Pam said...

i could have totally used more jasper in the movie instead of bella's pathetic needy whining crap. someone mentioned her hospital stutter scene...they definitely should have cut that out cos that sounded desperate. i did enjoy the books (except breaking dawn) and the movie, but bella's character seems to set women back a bit. no offense to those who love bella and/or kristen stewart (cos i don't like her either haha sorry) :)

Pam said...

p.s. i always saw a lot of comments about jackson looking like he was in pain playing jasper, i have to say well no duh, he is. he's trying not to feast on that whiny chick lol

Anonymous said...

TEAM JASPER...FTW!!

Seriously though, Jasper is such an awesome character! Dare I say...he has more personality than Edward! PLUS he's a southern gentleman...what's not to like?!?!

P.J. LittleFoot said...

I didnt understand his lack of screen time either. I hope that by the time this is all over and done with that the script writer learns that Jasper is important and we really need to see him.

And yes it would be nice to see a little less bella brooding. Jaspers easier on the eyes! lol

Chrissi said...

Oh. My. Jasper. Well, well, well. This week we have a junior leaguer deserving of some kind of award *racks brain to decide what to call award*.

Who was it on Twitter that I was discussing the advantages of a Jasper and Alice spin-off with?? Hmm, it was a while ago, but as everyone should know by now, I am Team Jasper. Why? Two words, BASEBALL SCENE... *Tries not to drool* Okay, there's a lot more reasons, which I'm not going to go into detail about *trying to resist urge to do a Jasper rant longer than the current one*. I watched the movie first, so when I read the books my appreciation of him grew. Ah Jasper, you can alter my mood any day...

BTW did anyone see Entertainment Tonight? I'm in Aus, so I'm not sure when this episode was on, but it was about Kristen and Taylor's photo shoot, and Taylor was doing a backwards flip in it. Very cool. My appreciation of HIM grew slightly...

I think if Jasper had more to do with the movie part of it, everyone would love him. He is great in the book but it just doesn't shine through in the movie. I hope NM is better with showing the true characters not just Jazz but Emmett also.

imbeingheldhostage said...

We all know that the Jasper everyone is in love with is from the book, not the movie. Movie Jasper was just a constipated joke. Sorry, but I LOVED book Jasper. And the baseball scene-- could have been SO much longer!

Tracy said...

You know what I am going to say. Spider, Rain, I am with you all the way. Jackson looked like such an oddball at the TCA's. Sorry Spank and Ginger. And he does look stopped up in the movies. But, his character in the book was cool and that pic at the top of the page with him in his war uniform is AMAZING. Just another thing left out of the book that could have been better in the first one. Looking forward to NM.

I'm from the south what can I say southern men have charm. I would love to see more of Jasper in the movie *wink*Wink*. He and Edward have my heart or anything else they want.LOVE the picture of Jasper in uniform very nicely done.Mr. Ginger's work?

SpiderLily said...

Ok after reading comments I see there is sort of two sides to this- Book Jasper and Movie Jasper.

LOVE book Jasper. I just..ya know, imagined him a little different.

Movie Jasper- eh..not so much. Although I DO love Jackson Rathbone- He just didn't get to display the full spectrum of his personality from the book...and I think that is just something that often happens with adaptations.

Chrissi said...

@ SpiderLily I definitely agree about adaptions. Unfortunately if all the characters we love, or love to hate, from the books were given as much screen time as time they had in the book then we might have a movie that runs for a few days, rather than a few hours lol. Not that any of us would mind, but it might be quite hard on the actors, and the budget.

@ imbeingheldhostage The baseball scene was awesome, wasn't it?!! But I don't know if it's book-Jasper for me so much as it's Jackson. I saw the movie first, so it was him that I started to like, and when I realised the depth of the character after reading the books I liked screen-Jasper even more :D

I’ve always been team Jasper and I’m glad he was more in Eclipse then in the previous films. The picture made me laugh, didn’t expect that.
