Is Alice really "all that?"

When Alice and Jasper were checking out of the hotel they had no idea that Bella was right behind them, sneaking away. She had made the decision upstairs at least ten minutes prior... so, was Alice overcome by Jaspers essence or is she just a lazy vampire?

Yeah, this bothered me in the book too. How could Alice not have seen Bella's decision? She sees new visions as soon as they change course. Besides, Edward came to the ballet studio because Alice told him where they were. Can't vampires run really, really fast? Like, faster than taxi? They should've reached the ballet studio before Bella did!

Did anyone think that MAYBE they were ignoring her rather than not noticing her ... I mean, if I had Jasper that close to me I'd kinda want the hotel room to myself too.

Good point, Spank. I'd choose alone time with Jasper over saving gullible Bella any day.

In the book, Alice DID see the vision change. However, I believe that all she saw was Bella dead. Since Edward had not made the decision to go there, there was no other outcome yet. Also, yes Vampires can run faster than Taxi's, but hello! They didn't know where the ballet studio was!
Alice just thought that they were going to fail, and it was their fault, not that Bella had made a decision to put herself in harms way.
Also, Bella walked with Jasper away from the Alice. It would take time for Alice to get to Jasper like a normal person because they were in a public place. So he was oblivious until Alice showed up.
Edward hadn't arrived yet, so they had to tell him too. And as I said, they didn't really know where they were going. And they were in public, they couldn't do use Vampire running skills.

I had the same reaction about that in the movie, but agreeing with Ninja Fanpire about how it happens in the book.

Good morning Ninja,

We were talking about the movie (script issues) not the book.

Ginger talked about the book.

Oh, pissant was IN that scene? Sorry, I was thinking about getting a room with Jasper (get your mind out of the gutter-- I just want to fix his hair for him).

Yes alice is all that and then some... the movie sucked major a$$ in not building her character appropriately... apart from the edwella romance... alice's visions keeps the plot-a-rollin. Coming from someone who movied before book-ing then movied and book-ed multiple times after... I about passed out when the first thing I remember hearing from alice in the movie is... " are you riding with us..." ***or some crazy dialogue to that effect*** then i understood why everyone was pi$$ed off. In the book alice is kick a$$...Weitz definitely has some character building to do in the subsequent movies... or people who are new to twilight... will definitely be having several WTF moments

At least we know that Alice is going to be in Italy, although 5 seconds on screen during that time WILL NOT COUNT.

Yeah, in the movie they definitely screwed up with that. All I can say is that they were making Alice really focused on Jasper at the time, which means that she may not have been watching Bella's future for the few minutes she was escaping. Jasper also missed the crazy trying-to-escape emotions of a new person in the room, so yeah, I'm just going with the theory that they were really, REALLY focused on each other. I think they did a great job of letting Bella go, unfortunately they arrived at the studio in time to save her. Better luck next time.

You have to remember that Alice herself stated that her visions are more atuned to Vampires that humans are a little fuzzy. Her visions of Bella only became clearer in New Moon thanks to her being closer to Bella and being able to kind of tune into her 'frequency'.

Also...with regards to THAT scene in the film...let's face it, that was different from the book anyway. We all know that Alice saw Bella take a different path but that doesn't mean that she saw Bella getting away from them at the airport (or in the film, at the hotel) or that she saw the EXACT ballet studio, considering that they all basically have a similar layout and there was bound to be more than 1 studio in ALL of Phoenix.

However you swing it...Alice is still an awesome character and quite frankly kicks Bella's ass!!

Yeah, they just royally f'd up that part of the movie... because Alice would have totally caught that. ESPECIALLY if Bella had been that close to them in the hotel lobby, I'm assuming that Alice and Jasper were probably in tune with Bella's scent and could have noticed her standing there and then leaving.

since we're talking about Alice and if she is really "all that", how come she does not have a vision of a new girl coming to school that makes her brother's bloodlust so bad he is on the verge of murdering the entire class?

@llaria
so heres the movies' lame-a$$ attempt at addressing bella coming... remember when edward and bella are up the mountain... edwards getting drenched by rain only falling on him and bella is bone dry and in the same conversation, 2 seconds later edward has his sexy bed hair back...(yeat another EPIC FAIL but I digress)
bella:..."Can the rest of your family read peoples minds like you can..."
edward:..."um.. no thats just me..but alice..alice can see the future"
Bella:...."I bet she saw coming.."
Edward:..."...alice's visions are subjective..I mean the future can always change..."

My take on it... alice is all that... ... edwards future is clear to her when he decides on his course of action otherwise its all fuzzy... and bad reception. So until he smelt bella he would not really made a decision to kill/or not to kill her. Alice had zero reason to pay attention to bella until Edward went stark raving mad (temporarily)
