Who are you?

Near the end of Twilight, Carlisle tells Edward, "Remember who you are" when he arrives to the Ballet Studio and Edward is having James for lunch. This is seconds before Carlisle summons Emmett, Jasper and Alice to rip apart James and burn him to pieces. Huh?

I know! Is "who he is" a pansy? Because he was doing a good job of kicking James's ass. Apparently that's out of character. Or he could have been referring to Edward's "generous spirit" and wanted him to share the fun. After all, Alice did seem to enjoy all the ripping and tearing A LOT.

Maybe Dr. Carlisle simply knows that Edward has a sensitive stomach. Edward did spit out that hunk of James as soon as he bit into it. ... and if Edward were truly generous in nature he wouldn't be a one-woman vampire.

That was total CHEESE .... Especially the "son" part. I never got that.

That part bothers me every time. Why didn't he just say "Edward, we'll take it from here... Bella needs you."

Maybe you're right, Spank. Maybe he was referring to Edward having a sensitive stomach. He might be vampire-intolerant. Perhaps one chunk of James was all he could handle.

I probably could have handled more than "one chunk" of James.

I think that Edward would have made James suffer before he finally died. Or whatever happens to Vamps when they burn.

It also bothered me that they had to say "tear him apart and burn the pieces."

1. Okay, heard it the first time.
2. If you read the books, you already know this
3. Couldn't you just say kill him? Everyone saw how James died, we know he was thrown into a fire.

I didn't get that either! It annoyed me.

I thought it was because he 'didn't want to be a monster'...that he sort of had a 'conscience' and maybe Carlisle knew that he would punish himself for feeling guilty later.

And Edward did see him as his 'father' in many different ways...

sorry...just saw Robapalooza playing on my screen and got distracted...oops..hubby is watching my face (I'd better look away :) lol)

That is what I think... :)

Can I also ask - why WHY? did Alice have to go over and snap his neck? Is she a neck-snapping expert? Is Emmett not equipped for neck-snapping? What was that about? This whole scene bugged me. I'm with you.

That totally DID bother me too!! I also hated the fact that he said "Stop Edward! Your killing her!" No! He stopped on his own, when he tasted her blood go clean! Give him more credit... he did that out of love for her, not cuz his "dad" told him to stop!
They should'a had me direct it. Hmph.

I'm still stuck on "yeah" from that scene yesterday. I will never hear that word the same again, or it will never mean the same in my head.

I’m sure the writers and the director didn’t read the book as many times as I did (I lost count a while back) but how hard is it to get the basic characters right.

I read an article about making the movie that said this was the first scene they shot because it was more technical. Maybe they hadn’t got very far into character development at this point.

My problem? I just put down Breaking Dawn to do some bloggy stuff, and I'm stuck in the scenes where Edward is so hot for Bella after she's turned. I cannot focus on this scene-- it's not happening. F O C U S. It didn't bother me that Alice ripped James head off-- it the books she's pretty dang fast and furious. But, I too thought the "remember who you are" didn't really fit. It should have been "remember, Bella and let us finish." These type of things always make me want to ask if the screenwriter truly read the books word for word...

Regarding the Alice thing, I interpreted it as a spontaneous thing on her part because she had seen how bad Bella was hurt and wanted in on the action of killing the vamp that was responsible.

I took it as Carlisle telling Edward to rise above it, that he's better than that. However, apparently he doesn't think the same of Emmett and Jasper. WTF? I'm going to chalk it up to another loss for Melissa Rosenberg. Whyyy can't they have hired a more eloquent screenwriter with more on her resume than Step Up 2??!

THANK YOU! I always had an issue with that. Is it because Jasper and Alice weren't "born" from Carlise? But then Emmett was so I have no clue. More brilliant screenwriting from our friends in Hollywoodland.

But I do have to say I LOVE when Alice snaps his neck. KICK ASS GIRL!
