In Breaking Dawn; what thoughts do you think were running through Rosalie's mind when Bella was pregnant? Intense Jealousy? Hopeful that Bella would die and leave Rosie to raise the child she never had?
That was one topic that I didn't feel was resolved to my satisfaction. I wanted verification that Rosalie changed her motivations and by the time Renesmee was born, she loved Bella like Alice did. Because I like happy endings, puppies and rainbows.
Rosalie's character was one of the oddest in the series from my point of view. I never completely "got" her disdain for Bella's choice mostly because there are plenty of human women who can never have children and that doesn't change their partner's love for them. I married Mr. Meadow without a fertility test, after all.
Edward could read Rosalie's mind (poor guy) and he was pretty convinced that Rosalie cared nothing for Bella and sought only to protect the child, even at the expense of Bella's life. While I don't believe Rosalie maintained the intense level of animosity she initially felt for Bella, I cannot believe that Rosalie felt a strong bond with Bella in the end. Bella was simply the vessel for that which Rosalie wanted most and could not have, a child. Without exception throughout the series Rosalie has been portrayed as selfish and her protection of Bella during pregnancy was the manifestation of that character flaw. I can, however, appreciate her disdain for the dog.
Oh Spank, the exchanges between her and Jacob were one of my favorite parts of Breaking Dawn, that is, after Isle Esme... and the cottage... and... uh, where were we? Sorry. Got distracted.
This relationship never quite worked for me either. Especially by the time BD hit. Her over-protectiveness was just over the top and I couldn't picture it. It should have been toned down a bit. Or, if she hated Bella so much throughout the whole series it would have made more sense for Rosalie to steal Bella away and perform a cesarean section on her to steal the kid. But then I suppose the Cullens would disown her... I have no explanation for it other than it was a slight cop out on the part of Stephenie Meyer. A way to tie something together that didn't need to be. Be I agree with Ginger, her exchanges w/Jacob were marvelous! And to be quite frank with you, I didn't even like the fact that Edward became a father. But that's a whole other blog post...
Thanks to Stephenie Meyer, Edward's propensity for having an over-protective nature is well documented, so I guess I can see him as a "father-figure." What I didn't get to see, however, is the raw and intense sexual abandon that he would have displayed quite readily if Spank had the opportunity to place the imperius curse on Stephenie Meyer back in 2003 when she wrote the dang story. If only I'd have known then her sinister plans to torture us with her literary cold showers. *shakes head in disbelief* But, I digress...
Mmm.... Isle Esme... *shaking head* Wait, girls, stay on topic! I have to admit that after watching the movie I finally admitted to myself that I am not Edward's girlfriend. In fact, someskank sweet-faced innocent girl named Bella really is. If I were half as beautiful as Rosalie is supposed to be and Edward had ignored me for decades only to fall for her, I'd be a raging bitch too. After all, I'd probably have convinced myself that he was gay.

hahaha she did kind of hint at that, huh?
What?! What is this?! Jamie up at this hour?! And first?!
I totally think that Rose just wanted Bella's baby. She still had the same contempt and hatred for Bella and she never got over it. She just needed to keep Bella alive so that she could safely deliver the baby.
Like Spank said, they probably would have disowned her for killing Bella, so that wasn't an option.
But if Bella died naturally during childbirth......Well darn. At least the baby was still okay.
I told Spank about my article on Rosalie earlier. If you'd like to read it's here.
http://86rabbit.wordpress.com/2009/02/11/why-rosalie-doesnt-suck/
As for Rosalie and Bella, I don't know what they discussed on the phone when Bella called, of course, but I think it was just a cry for help to the only person whoe would understand the need to have this baby. I think Rosalie's role was only ever that of a protective aunt. If Bella died, the baby would still be Edward's if it lived. Rosalie would never get to keep the baby unless Edward abandoned them all if Bella died, and I don't think he would ever abandon his only link to Bella like that.
No, I think Rosalie saw that she couldn't be a Mom, but she could be an aunt. She could have a hand in raising a child. I think this partially healed this wound of Rosalie's. And like Bella said, she finally made the right choice in Rosalie's eyes, so things would be right between them from then on.
That pic is so funny. I don't think that Rose totally got over her resentment of Bella. I think they did however bond in a way that softened it.
I think Stephenie kind of alluded to the fact of Edward wishing he could have kids at one point (I don't remember if it was in Eclipse or Breaking Dawn...guess I'll have to re-read them :)...again).
I think Bella & Rosalie's relationship was slightly stronger when she called her. But I don't feel Rosalie ever was completely resolved about Bella's decision to become a vampire.
However...Rosalie knew that Edward would not live without Bella. Maybe she thought that if Bella didn't make it and Edward was going to have Jacob or someone off him, that she would have her chance to be the 'mom' she wanted to be.
Rosalie also was kicked in the gut to get her out of the room (away from the blood) and then came back, the moment the baby was born. She really couldn't wait to get her hands on Reneesme.
Ohhh! I just totally thought of something that may give us some 'resolution' to Rosalie & Bella. Rosalie seemed to 'assure' Reneesme that Bella was her mother, since all she could remember was Bella as a human.
I think Rosalie is just a selfish bitch. All she wanted was the baby, and since Bella was going to give that to her, she decided to befriend her. OBviously if Bella had never been pregnant nothing would have changed. Which is weird to me because towards the end of the book Edward sort of forgives Rosalie because he calls her "Rose" which Jacob notes as a difference. Generally I dislike Rosalie for using Bella and not even trying to be subtle about it.
Oh dear. It's too early in the morning for a "Rosalie" discussion. You guys are my heroes. I agree with all of you. Especially Meadow - Isle Esme...mmmm....dream....not me with Edward...wake up....UGH! There's a lot of things I love about BD and a lot of things I hate. It's like uh...they're married....(finally)...doing it (finally) ...and right when you get into the Isle Esme stuff - she's knocked up...and it's back in hell all over again. I do LOVE the angst between Jake and Rosalie - it cracked me up! Rosalie did talk to Bella in Eclipse and tried to befriend her well sorta in her bitchy sorta way. Bella knew she'd protect her and I don't think Bella cared if Rose wanted her dead or not. It was only the baby they cared about.
But I have to tell you girls, the whole birth thing is YIKES. My daughter is 3 months away from giving birth with her second and has the memory of that chapter engraved in her head! Way to get all graphic SM! You couldn't have done that with the LOVE scenes? But besides that, I don't see Edward as a father....Bella (kstewpid) absolutely NOT! She can't even tie her shoes and stand upright by herself.
That picture rocks! Great job girls, once again!!!
I do think that it would be kinda of stupid of SM if she had Rosalie steal the baby c-section style(sorry Spider.)
Isle Esme.... hmmmm, not enough of it though!
Ok I love our daily team meetings. More like League meetings..if you know what I mean.
Don't kill me but I like Rosalie's spunk. You have to admit she got a raw deal from her fiance, she never got a chance to be a mom and Edward never liked her...(that alone would make me totally loose it..and get TESTY). I love how Jake teases her. Deep down she still cares about Edward even though she has Emmett. I think that Nessie's power to love softened her feelings for Bella and that is why she was able to acknowledge Bella as Nessie mom. Just a thought.
oops I'm sorry Meadow, I guess I said what you said! I have to go get my double shot mocha!
The other day I said on Twitter that they need to do a commentary of the movie pop up video style!
I agree with rubnutmeg, she kind did get a raw deal. That could totally cause her to be a total b***h!
Oh man, this is something that really bothered me about BD. I never felt like Rosalie's motive was resolved. I personally felt like she did it all for herself. She never liked Bella and that changes just because Bella decides to keep the baby??? RIGHT. A little to fast on the change of mind there for my taste, she never seemed that easy to sway before. The end of the book focuses so much on Bella being the protector that it's difficult to know where Rosalie's head is but I doubt it's rainbows and puppies. She's still selfish so I'm guessing she only likes Bella for what she can get from her.
I simply couldn't help myself - I had to join in.
I love you guys - League and commenting participants! Next to trying to find out everything about Rob on the web and New Moon - your site is like the Bible to me! Thanks to all of you!
I agree with all of you about certain aspects of BD being unresolved...especially Rosalie.
It also bothered me that the whole darn family seemed to be gone when Bella's heart stopped beating. I mean, I thought that Carlisle and Esme loved her? Why weren't they there? WTH. That made me mad.
Spank, u got the whole "torture" from SM right when it comes to Edward, too. Cold showers are literally my life now!
But I still want them to put BD on the silver screen. If not for anything else but ISLE ESME....uh I need a cold shower!
@ Anonymous -- YAY for joining in! Hopefully BD movie will be "unrated" for our pleasure. :)
I didn't plan on adding to this because I just hate Rosalie! I hate her from all perspectives! They did a good job of making her a B---- in the movie, lol, even though it wasn't quite the same as the book at that point, lol. BD is my favorite book, with the exception of the UNFINISHED (ugh) Midnight Sun. I love, love, love ISLE ESME, but, as the parent of a teenager who loves Twilight, I am **sorta** glad they left a lot up to the imagination. I couldn't let her read it if it got into to much detail...however, they could publish a MATURE version and that would be really, really nice!! LOL!! I was hoping they would at least get into SOME of the details, without going r-rated, ya know? LOL. I just love the whole pillow-being-bitten-into part....sigh! But, yeah, even after the baby is born, Rosalie still drives me crazy. I do think she felt better about Bella because she DOES acknowledge that Renessme loves loves her, but the whole bodyguard issue drove me insane! I wanted so bad for Edward to whack her! I loved the dog-bowl-upside-the-head...that was the BEST! Hope they do that in the movie if it ever comes, lol.
What do you guys think about it being in 2 movies? I see the point--the book is very very long, but if the movie ends where Jacob imprints on the baby everyone is gonna be like...."WHAT??? We have to wait a year to see more????" lol...
Where Rosalie is concerned(without being redundant), I concur.LOL
But really... what I can't stop tossing and turning at night... pondering and fretting over is:
What type of feathers were they? ;)
LOL @Mystify me... Way to bring it back to what's truly important in the Twi-Universe. ;)
I just had to say that joking aside, I didn't hate Rosalie's character the way alot (most of) you do. I just kinda viewed her as that one person in everyone's family that is self-absorbed but you love them anyway because they're family. Since Edward didn't ACTUALLY rip her limb from limb I'd venture to say that while all she really WANTED was the baby I'm sure she didn't WISH for Bella to die. Even if it was just because then Edward would be miserable and she cared for him.
@Spank An unrated DVD version would be okay as well ;).
I don't dislike Rosalie (she slightly reminds me of my sister). At least she knows and admits to being self-absorbed :)!
Meadow
Yes, that's exactly what I think about Rosalie. She did care about Edward and b/c of that, she did KINDA try to be nice to Bella. Remember in NM how she tried to apologize to Edward and the only one who accepted her apology (about the whole Bella's dead thing) was Bella! & that better be in the movie!
OFF THE TRACK a little bit (ok a lot) but have you guys heard what they are saying about OUR ROB? I'm so pissed right now. They said someone on NM is saying he's a stinky boy. If that's true, I'll be glad to give him a bath. *wink* Gee ppl find something else to write about. Let's pick on kstewpid Instead!
about the stinky boy, Yea I have been reading that all morning too, lol. However, I liked what someone said, "It must be one of the werewolves saying it!" ROFL!!! yeah, that would explain it!!!
listen, given the chance to get remotely CLOSE to anyone on the set of NM - I definitely wouldn't be discussing rob's hygiene issues and writing about it. UNLESS i wanted to turn it into a fanfiction where robin gets rob all to herself .... *uh hem*
Okee dokee-- Rosalee was my least favorite character, BUT I think in the end she would have been the only one to help Bella. The rest of them loved her too much to let the baby rip her apart- it didn't really matter what Rosalee's motives were--Bella and her had a truce because of the baby. I doubt it would ever go farther than that. The stuff between her and Jacob was the comic relief. Sometimes I think we analyze things that just arent' there. Rosalee is what she is-- and admitted it- I have to give that to her at least. No pretending to be nice.
Ok so I didn't remark on Rosalie. The subject matter for today.
UM. I neither like her or hate her. Somewhere inbetween, I guess. I loved our Jacob teased her and how she gave him a dogdish. giggle giggle. But when it comes down to it...I'm totally jealous of her b/c she's pretty, immortal and lives in the same house as Edward.
I kinda like Rosalie. I loved her in the baseball scene! She tells it like it is and at least takes the time to explain her feelings to Bella on several occassions. She actually did tell Bella that she wouldn't mind her being her sister - she just didn't want her to become a vampire. New Moon the Vote chapter. I read it several times. My take on Rosalie is that she actually hates herself and wants to be loved. Nessie, the baby was her best opportunity to be loved without someone judging her by her looks. ? I don't know. Just a thought.
I LOVE THIS SITE BY THE WAY! I lurk all the time somewhat like a stalker. Which one is the lawyer?
wait, who's rosalie? ::EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD::
Woah! - League is heavy today!
Every book has a character that we luv to hate and Rosalie is the Twlight b*tch. She just rounds out the cast, right.
Just have to luv how Jacob brings her down.
Would much rather re-read the Isle Esme part-imagining myself as Bella - OMG - I have a great imagination. and I luv eggs! Edward "whipping" me up an omelet-pant, pant!
Comment above was from me - beesue.
Forgot to put in my name - still panting!
beesue,
panting right with you girl. *smirk*

Hellooooooo!!
Ok, we had a National Holiday here in Greece yesterday that's why you didn't hear anything from me!
Well, dang! Now you all replied and theres nothing for me to say anymore!
A small synopsis from my side. I dont dislike Rosalie. If I were Rosalie and Edward didnt like me... I would hate her too :O)))
She explains herself in New Moon and shows how much she really would like to have a normal human life and a baby by helping Bella. I like Breaking Dawn a lot (ok, especially Isle Esme scenes... hmmm... I could give you a fanfiction link if you want to see what happened there... LOL). I really find the giving birth scene horrifying but great! I like it that only Edward is there because it shows that he cant give her up, whatever happens! I think he wouldn't stop trying to save her... he would keep on sucking girls (dont think of other body parts! shame on you! I was thinking of sucking her blood.. tsk tsk tsk... to make her a vampire! tsk tsk tsk...)
Back to the topic! I believe that after Bella giving birth to Renesmee, Rosalie finally accepted her even when for her selfish reasons.
I LOVE that comic strip. Hilarious...mind if I tweet that?
Sorry folks, my net has been down for ages, so only seen my topic now. Thanks team, very grateful that you have given me this airing......
Now back on topic;
I reckon, given a split second and if Edward couldn't read minds, rosie would have snatched that kid up and done a runner!
All your posts make me chuckle in an evil way too!
